The Bert\u00e9nyi Mikl\u00f3s Botanical Garden is free to visit<\/h4>\n

In the Mikl\u00f3s Bert\u00e9nyi Botanical Garden, visitors are greeted by a landscape and a distinctive microclimate that are entirely different from the vegetation of the surrounding hills. In the second half of the 1960s, based on the thesis of forestry student Gyula E\u0151ry, stands of spruce, Douglas fir, Scots pine and red pine were planted to replace the existing stands of hornbeam, black locust and sessile oak. The work was carried out initially under the supervision of district forester Istv\u00e1n Mundi, and later under that of Antal Koncz. In 1978, based on an idea by Dr L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Madas and Dr Andr\u00e1s Madas, and under the leadership of forest engineers Mikl\u00f3s Bert\u00e9nyi and Dr G\u00e1bor Varga, work began on transforming the area into an arboretum.<\/p>\n

Species that provide special decorative features (flowers, autumnal foliage, etc.) have been planted along the edges of the groves, thanks to which the garden reveals a different aspect at every time of year. In 1985, the FAO\u2019s Forestry Section held its general assembly in Hungary; this event is still commemorated today by the trees planted by delegates from member countries, which were brought from various parts of the world.<\/p>\n
