We can look back on an unforgettable year

This was the year we’d been looking forward to so much after the long lockdown and the seemingly endless, enforced restrictions, and which ultimately brought us a wealth of fantastic programmes and events. From Visegrád anzix 2022.

The V4 Pavilion has been completed

Our town’s long-held wish has been fulfilled with the completion of this open-air installation, which, thanks to modern technology, can show hundreds of thousands of tourists what this combination of a letter and a number – V4 – actually means. For centuries, this cooperation has been pivotal to our role in Europe; it could not have come about without the intervention of King Charles I, who convened the momentous meeting of kings at Visegrád in 1335.

The Hop On-Hop Off partnership has continued

Throughout this year’s tourist season, we were once again able to enjoy the unrivalled local transport option provided by the Hop On-Hop Off bus services. With buses specially designed for Visegrád, visitors were able to explore the town’s most beautiful spots with ease and in a way tailored to their individual needs throughout the spring and summer of 2022, and at extremely discounted prices. This option will certainly be available again next year.

Boat tours of the Danube Bend

One of Mahart-PassNave’s most exciting tourist boat trips, available throughout the season, is the Danube Bend circular cruise; this is undeniable, if only in terms of passenger numbers. Visegrád plays a prominent role among the stops on the route, and just as it is an extraordinary opportunity for our town to welcome thousands of tourists from the Danube, the cruise company also offers a real gem with its stop in Visegrád. In 2023, we look forward to warmly welcoming back everyone who wishes to visit us by water!

Giro d’Italia 2022.

Visegrád was, in a sense, the centre of the world in early May, when the Giro d’Italia – the most important international cycling race after the Tour de France – got underway. Tens of thousands of people followed the events of the Budapest–Visegrád stage live, whilst millions more cheered on the riders in front of their television sets and online. We have made our mark on the history of cycling, and we have every reason to be proud of this.

Visegrád International Palace Games

This was the year we had perhaps been looking forward to the most since the first Palace Games were held back in the mid-1980s, as the event has never been cancelled since then, but last year, for the first time in many decades, we had to endure a summer during which the town could not be decked out in medieval finery. So this July, Central Europe’s most prestigious medieval festival got underway to a huge ovation, and even before the opening, the new roofing system was handed over, thanks to which, from 2022 onwards, all the stands will be fully covered every year.

Visegrock 9.

We have our very own rock festival – just saying that is particularly exhilarating. And to spend two days with acts like the ones that played here – to name but a few: Mudfield, Leander Kills, Tűzkerék XT., Lord…  We’ve reached the point where it’s now a mark of serious professional recognition for a band to be among the performers at Visegrock. This is a source of great, great pride for us. As for what Bálint Anda and his team are planning for next year’s 10th-anniversary Visegrock, we may well find out before too long!

Town Day

The town festival held in September turned out to be exceptionally grand, as we were delighted to note: a huge number of guests came to see Dániel Lugosi, the Bud Spencer and Terence Hill Tribute Band, and the evening’s headline act, PASO. It was brilliant! The bar has been set very high, and we’re really looking forward to seeing which performers the town will welcome in 2023.

Of course, life didn’t come to a standstill with the arrival of winter either. After all, the ski season is still ahead of us.
Preparations for the opening are already well under way at the Nagyvillám Ski Slope!
All this clearly shows that Visegrád offers opportunities for relaxation in spring, summer, autumn and winter alike, and always has some heart-warming surprises in store!
