Nevertheless, for anyone in Hungary who loves the mountains, the forests and the immediate proximity of riverbanks, but doesn’t fancy driving for half a day, Visegrád has probably been a household name since childhood.
It is no wonder that King Matthias, too, took a particular liking to Visegrád and chose to establish his summer residence here – thereby compensating his young wife, who had been forced to leave Renaissance Italy as a result of their marriage, with the unique beauty of the surroundings.
