It has been quite a few years now since the team known as ‘outdoor.maffia’, led by Zoli Gyurián, began to envisage Visegrád from a perspective that had previously received far less attention than a town boasting such a stretch of the Danube truly deserves. Today, the world these lads have brought to life is an unmissable attraction.
And perhaps it seems a bit odd to use such grand words, when, to an outside observer, SUP is, on the whole, little more than people standing on a board strapped to their feet and paddling slowly across the water. Well, yes. After all, a mountaineer is just going uphill too…
What makes the SUP (Stand Up Paddling) tours in the Danube Bend truly special is that, thanks to Zoli and his team’s particularly attentive and unique approach to tour guiding, anyone has the opportunity get the hang of the board effortlessly and in no time at all, without any prior training or paddling experience, and to feel completely safe after covering just a few hundred metres. The sights and atmosphere that unfold before you are captivating. You simply cannot admire the Danube Bend in such detail and with such ease from either a ship or a boat.
Of the main types of SUP tours, three are particularly worth highlighting. ‘Sunset’ is the classic Friday–Saturday early-evening tour; ‘Heatwave’ takes place on Saturday, setting off at 10.00; and ‘Afternoon Chill’ starts on Sunday afternoon at 14.00.
The walks are usually 2–3 hours long, but depending on individual requirements, it is also possible to organise shorter walks or even much longer, more challenging ones.
