Visegrádi Palotajátékok

Following last year’s grand celebrations to mark the milestone anniversary, we will be kicking off another wonderful decade in 2026 on the second weekend of July in Visegrád.

For decades, the Palotajátékok has been Central Europe’s most prestigious event celebrating medieval traditions, as evidenced not only by domestic and international accolades and awards, but also by the huge interest in the event, which attracts full houses year after year. The magic of the festival lies in the spellbinding charm of historical times brought to life, spanning generations, for there is a little bit of a knight, a king in disguise, a princess or a court jester in all of us; – whether we are six years old ourselves or have come with our six-year-old grandchild.

Once again this year, the number of performers taking part in the traditional celebrations will exceed a thousand, and the whole of Visegrád will be transported back to the legendary world of the 14th century for three days. The Royal Palace, Solomon’s Tower, the banks of the Danube and the medieval fair stretching along the breathtaking length of Main Street will all serve as venues for a wide variety of events.

Visitors to the Knights’ Tournament Arena can look forward to equestrian displays, battle re-enactments, foot combat, archery, falconry, performances by drumming groups and a host of other fascinating attractions.

An international fencing competition is being organised by the Hungarian Buhurt Federation.

We can visit a traditional craft fair and enjoy special events in the courtyard of the Royal Palace, organised by the MNMKK King Matthias Museum; whilst in Solomon’s Tower there will be guided tours, a page-training demonstration, the Five Trials, live music and jousting.

On the Park Stage, a medieval playhouse, fairground comedy and medieval world music concerts will take place in succession from mid-morning until late afternoon.

Between 10:00 and 20:00, the Main Stage will be transformed into „Tökmagfalu” by the Zsámbék Estate, and the concerts and dance party will begin in the evening.

And once again this year, the two chief heralds can be none other than father and son: the actors János Papp and Dániel Papp.
