Visegrád will host the Council of Europe’s major international conference on Cultural Routes in September 2024.

At the same time, as a result of the developments that have taken place to date, our town also wishes to join this wonderful tourist and cultural initiative, thereby enriching the „Route of the Roman Emperors and the Wines of the Danube” itinerary.
This route covers the landscapes of a total of five countries, featuring twenty archaeological sites from the Roman period and twelve wine-growing regions. These sites, which form part of the cultural heritage of the Roman era and have been fully or partially excavated, each bear the imprint of that period; taken together, they effectively trace a single, vast route through Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary.

The entire route has been designed by the Council of Europe’s team of experts in the fields of science and tourism to ensure it is easy to follow and makes the most of all the infrastructure available, so you can travel on foot, by bike, or even by boat on certain sections.

Ten cultural trails have now been put together, which explore themes including Art Nouveau, cemeteries, spa towns, the Iron Age, the Reformation and even the era of the Iron Curtain, presenting the most diverse periods and historical milestones of history and cultural history in a captivating, interactive format.

On the „Roman Emperors and the Danube Wine Route”, Hungary is currently represented by a section in Pécs; our city would also like to join this route within just over a year, and preparations for this are already under way.
