An unusual exhibition, featuring works by the sculptor and painter Iván Szkok – who turns 80 this year – will open in Visegrád on 20 September, spanning 10 venues.

Iván Szkok has many ties to Visegrád; although he was born in Szombathely in 1944, he spent a significant part of his childhood in our town. His artistic connection to Visegrád is also well illustrated by the fact that one of his 15 murals in the country adorns the walls of the screening room at the Duna Cinema in Visegrád, thus lending the auditorium a unique atmosphere and an interior of enduring value.

Szkok graduated in decorative painting in 1988, and then in 1992 he graduated from the Hungarian College of Fine Arts with a degree in painting and teaching. He regards Sándor Veress as his early mentor, but his art is also greatly influenced by Rembrandt, Csontváry, Derkovits, Ferenczy, Szalay and Kondor.
He has exhibited in several European countries, as well as in the United States and Canada. He is a member of the DunaP’art Art Society and the National Association of Hungarian Creative Artists.
In 2023, he was awarded the Mihály Munkácsy Prize. 
Many of his public artworks can be seen in Budapest, but his works can also be found in Szombathely, Kecskemét and Mosonmagyaróvár, amongst other places.

To mark this significant anniversary, the The Royal Palace, the Görgey Staircase, the General’s Guest House, the Duna Cinema, the Town Hall, St John the Baptist Catholic Church, the King Matthias Cultural Centre, and the Lajos Áprily Primary School, and The gardens of Árpád Kalotai and Iván Szkok’s house in Visegrád They will also host exhibitions, lectures and a performance.

The opening will take place on 20 September at the Mátyás Király Cultural Centre, starting at 5.00 pm. The exhibitions will be open to the public until 6 October.
