If there is one attraction that is inextricably linked with Visegrád, it can be none other than our jousting tournament, presented following the 12th instalment of our short film series.
The military heritage section of the Order of St George has been staging medieval military tournaments in Visegrád for over 35 years, and to this day, Solomon’s Tower hosts these special events, which over the past three and a half decades have offered millions of Hungarian and international visitors a glimpse into the world of the Middle Ages.
During the demonstration, the audience will be introduced to 14th-century weapons and infantry combat tactics; through duels, archery and projectile weaponry demonstrations, as well as a battle re-enactment, bringing to life everything that characterised the world of the 1300s during the reign of King Charles I, who, incidentally, was the founder of the Order of St George, which still exists today and is extremely active in other areas as well.
The Salamon Tower therefore serves as the venue for the show from spring to autumn; then, for the colder months, the knights move to the jousting hall at the Palotaház, yet even the enclosed performance space does not prevent them from bringing Hungary as it was six hundred years ago closer to modern audiences through their show, which is peppered with the crack of early firearms and a good dose of humour.
