Following a recent update by the operator of Visegrád Castle, it is now possible to buy tickets online for the famous Visegrád Castle. In related news, Mahart’s Danube Bend circular tours are now running regularly, and the long-awaited hydrofoil will also begin operating from 4 May.
The symbol most closely associated with the name, character, atmosphere and heritage of Visegrád is the Upper Castle, which overlooks the town from the top of Castle Hill and is commonly referred to simply as „Visegrád Castle”. Built on the highest point of the double-walled castle complex commissioned by King Béla IV, this complex remains the attraction that draws the most tourists to our town to this day, and the view from up there interests at least as many people as the exhibition itself.
Until now, we’ve been able to buy tickets at the entrance, but from now on it’s also possible to buy tickets online, to avoid the queues that are typical of busier weekends.
In May, you’ll be able to enjoy the full magic of travelling on the Danube, as the Danube Bend sightseeing cruise is now available, and from 4 May you’ll also be able to set off for us on a hydrofoil.
Tourist traffic on the Danube has a history stretching back centuries. Zebegény, Dömös and Visegrád have long been popular ports of call amongst visitors to the Danube Bend, many of whom come to explore the natural treasures of the Pilis and Börzsöny mountains. Lajos Áprily himself visited Visegrád during one such boat trip on the Danube, and it was, in fact, by a happy coincidence that he strolled to the spot where, not long afterwards, he bought a house – a place in Visegrád-Szentgyörgypuszta that today bears his name: the Áprily Valley…
