The first sightseeing bus tour in Visegrád was launched in April 2021 and proved an instant hit with the public right from the start.
Sightseeing bus routes designed in a similar spirit are available in many European cities, but the ‘hop-on, hop-off’ concept is a true game-changer in this regard. Essentially, the idea is that buses circulate all day long, calling at the city’s key attractions, dropping off and picking up passengers at designated stops, so that as tourists, we have just one thing to do: to enjoy ourselves to the full in the town we’re visiting, and to move on to the next exciting tourist spot whenever we feel like it. And to do this, there’s no need to keep buying new tickets or devising complicated itineraries. With the hop-on hop-off service, everything you need to travel between locations is taken care of.
Until 2021, City Sightseeing’s distinctive red double-decker buses were mainly seen in Budapest here in Hungary, however, by then the company had launched local routes in several other Hungarian cities of key importance to tourism, including Visegrád.
During the season, a service runs every 30 minutes, departing from the Mahart boat station (opposite the Renaissance Restaurant) and calling at stops including Mogyoróhegy, Salamon Tower, Apátkúti Valley and the Citadel, with a total of 11 stops.
If you buy a day ticket for the hop-on hop-off bus service, you can explore Visegrád without having to get in a car or walk the often considerable distances between stops (the latter being a lovely little walk in the case of the Salamon Towerand the Royal Palace, it’s a lovely little walk, but between the Citadel and Apátkúti Valley, it’s not exactly a short distance). At the same time, you can discover beautiful places and enchanting parts of the town whilst travelling.
