Nightingale Jazz Collective
(1 August)
We’d like to invite you to what promises to be a truly special event to welcome August, as we’re kicking off the month with some jazz. The Nightingale Jazz Collective, made up of young musicians from Pécs, will be enchanting the audience on the terrace of the Royal Palace chapel.
The quintet owes its distinctive musical sound primarily to the fact that its members come from a wide variety of international ensembles and projects, whilst having originally set out from Pécs and now finding each other once again at their alma mater. They are the ones who brought to life the jazz session held every Tuesday at the Csalogány in Pécs, known as „CsaliJam”, the essence of which is carefree improvisation, evoking not only jazz but also the early funk era, and at times even striking a distinctly rock-inspired note, thereby further enriching Pécs’s cultural heritage and its regular programme offering.
The band is characterised by jazz standards with a modern twist, subtle atmospheres, plenty of improvisation, youthful vigour, lively tempos and a playful spirit. They draw inspiration from the swing of the 1920s and 1930s just as much as from the liberated New Orleans scene of the 1960s, or indeed from contemporary jazz’s world music influences.
