Entries are open until 15 June for this special cross-country relay race, which will pass through the Selmeci Mountains and the Danube-Ipoly National Park in early July, eventually reaching Visegrád.
The organisers’ aim was to symbolically link two important historic towns – Selmecbánya and Visegrád – through a cross-border running race. The Hont region is rich in beautiful landscapes and, naturally, forms a single entity with those sections that lie within Hungarian territory – for nature knows no artificial borders drawn by man…
The various categories of the competition are also named after important historical figures from Selmecbánya and Visegrád, so we can enter Sámuel Mikovínyi, somethingMátyás Corvin categories bearing his name. In addition to all this, there will be ULTRA category, so the organisers are also welcoming professionals.
The distance between the athletics track in Selmecbánya and the Visegrád Sports Centre is approximately 220 km, and thanks to the varied nature of the route, the race will take place partly on tarmac and partly off-road; however, a key priority for the organisers was to ensure that the competitors could run in natural surroundings for as much of the route as possible.
Entrants must form teams of 3–8 people, each represented by a captain chosen by the team itself. The course will consist of 18 stages, each between 8 and 16 km long.
The members of the six-person teams – which, incidentally, is a practical number – each run three legs in a relay.
The baton will take the form of a GPS tracker, and whoever takes possession of it will be able to continue the race immediately. The aim of the race, beyond the sporting aspect, is to promote the region and to raise the profile of the magnificent yet undeservedly little-known Hont region.
