This is a more challenging spring hiking destination, but one that promises all the more spectacular views; what’s more, it entices those setting out on the trail with the breathtaking vista from the summit of Pilis.
 
The 17-metre-high Blessed Özséb Lookout Tower rises above the trees at the summit of the Transdanubian Central Mountains, at an altitude of exactly 756 metres.

There are several routes you can take to get there, but the section marked with a green cross is the most highly recommended; for the purposes of our hike, the recommended starting point is the Két-bükkfa-nyereg pass near Pilisszentkereszt, where there is also a car park.

From the top of the tower, there is a spectacular view of the countryside stretching out below us. The Buda Hills, the Visegrád Hills and the Pilisvörösvár Basin are all visible, and on a clear day, even some of the ridges of the Gerecse Mountains can be seen. 
It is not uncommon, either, that although there is fog below us and we have not been graced with sunshine during our walk, we can rise above the fog once we reach the viewpoint, and, as we climb to the top, we feel as though we are almost above the clouds. Far to the north, the Börzsöny range is already visible; this one area appears to be at exactly the same altitude somewhere in the distance, whilst everything else lies significantly below us. Anyone who knows and loves the panorama from Prédikálószék, and who is also a regular visitor to Dobogókő, simply must make their way here to the summit of Pilis as soon as possible…

Who was Blessed Özséb?

From 1246, Blessed Özséb, a canon of Esztergom, lived with his fellow monks in the forests of the area; it is to him that we owe the Pauline Order. They founded monasteries throughout the Pilis region, the ruins of several of which can still be seen today.
