This year, Visegrád is hosting a conference open to the general public, organised jointly by the Community Archaeology Association and the Hungarian Archaeological Association on 15–16 September. 

The two-day series of specialist lectures will essentially explore two major themes within the field of community archaeology.

The working title for the first day is: „Community Archaeology in Practice”. Gergely Buzás, Director of the King Matthias Museum, will open the theme day with a lecture on instrumental site surveying, followed by archaeological experts presenting fascinating details from case studies of excavations such as the Monor sword hoard, the Roman villa at Hosszútétény, and the siege sites from the Ottoman occupation period at Visegrád.

On the second day, entitled „Theoretical and Methodological Issues in Community Archaeology”, the programme will include not only lectures but also a field trip, during which archaeologist Katalin Boruzs will provide an account of the details of the excavation taking place on SibrikHill in Visegrád.
The day’s programme will also cover the current state of community archaeology, the findings from metal-detector surveys taking place across the country, and the new possibilities offered by the use of drones in archaeological fieldwork. There will also be an informative talk on the state of volunteering, the challenges facing this branch of archaeology, and the so-called „Scandinavian model”.  

Participation in the lectures and the study trip is free of charge, but advance registration is required so that the organisers can estimate the number of attendees.
