Visegrád has also become known in recent years as an iconic venue for numerous sporting events, ranging from international cycling races to cross-country running competitions. More and more organisers and sponsors are recognising the potential of the town’s facilities, and of course it is also a significant factor that Visegrád is just a 40-minute drive from the capital.
But let’s see what we can look forward to this year!
Fighter’s Run (22–23 March 2025)
The cross-country championship taking place this spring is quite different from the usual events, as the organisers are offering such a wide range of entry options that virtually everyone can find the perfect choice for them if they fancy taking part (incidentally, you can still register at a discounted rate until 16 February), as there will be tailor-made options for professionals, beginners, children, teams and even runners accompanied by their dogs.

BUHURT World Championships (17–20 July 2025)
The Town of Visegrád, the Hungarian Buhurt Association, the Order of St George, and the King Matthias Museum of the Hungarian National Museum, which is providing the venue, are jointly organising the Buhurt World Championships series of events in our town on the third weekend of July. Competitors will be arriving from numerous countries, and, of course, the cream of Hungary’s medieval heritage community will also be well represented at the competition.
The buhurt was one of the greatest attractions of medieval jousting tournaments in Europe, but the version revived today has developed into a genuine contemporary sport. Naturally, the armoured combatants may only face each other in accordance with a strict set of rules, and the duels – fought primarily with swords, maces and lances – can only begin whilst strictly observing the principles of „fair play”.

The opening ceremony of the World Archery Championships (13 August 2025)
According to the plans, Visegrád will also host the opening ceremony of the World Archery Championships to be held in Budapest in 2025. Organisational work is still ongoing in this regard, but as soon as we have any concrete details, we will certainly post them on the VisitVisegrád website.
