The campaign, which was originally launched on the initiative of István Bártfai, is being organised again this year; as part of it, teams of volunteers will come together to clear litter as effectively as possible from this section of the city along the Danube, which is otherwise constantly littered.
The campaign is also a call to action: DON’T LITTER!
For towns such as Visegrád, which attract huge numbers of visitors, the issue of litter is similarly problematic, as the problem of littering persists almost regardless of how many litter bins the local council provides. Numerous attempts have been made over the decades to solve this, but the solution is actually right there in front of everyone – all you have to do is reach out and take it. Because litter only ceases to be a problem if we stop throwing it away; so this fractal is, unfortunately or fortunately, a timeless truth.
Pilisi Parkerdő is also constantly grappling with this problem. Like other park management organisations and forestry departments across the country, they emphasise that „whatever you bring into the forest, take it back with you when you head home”. In this way, they are trying to relieve the pressure on the rubbish bins, which are placed in many locations but are limited in number. Another problem in the forest is that animals rummage through the bins and often eat things that we humans have thrown away there. It is therefore better to take everything back with you and dispose of the rubbish in bins in built-up areas instead. However, there is still room for improvement in this regard.
The Visegrád TDM is asking its members to support István Bártfai’s team on 9 March, if they are able to do so. If any hotel, restaurant or other service provider manager would be willing to send a few of their staff to help between 8.00 am and 12.00 pm, it would greatly boost the effectiveness of this initiative, and we would like to thank them in advance for their help!
Date: 9 March 2024 (08:00–12:00)
Area to be cleaned: From the go-kart track to the City Gate.
The organisers will provide bin bags, but please bring your own gloves!
