Five years ago, Cardinal Péter Erdő, Primate of Hungary, unveiled a memorial in the garden of the Catholic church in Visegrád in memory of István Kalász.

István Kalász, a Roman Catholic priest who, apart from a one-year absence in 1975 (when he served in Tardosbánya), had been the parish priest of Visegrád since 1967; his work within the Church extended far beyond his local activities.

In 1992, he was deputy dean; two years later, he was appointed acting dean; and from 1995, he served as dean.
Between 1987 and 2011, he also took on the duties of parish priest in Kisoroszi, but from 2002 he also held a chair at the Esztergom College of Theology.

He was a highly esteemed, much-loved and deeply respected citizen of the town of Visegrád, whose motto now also serves as a memento of his life’s work: „God is love; whoever lives in love lives in God, and God lives in them.” (1 John 4:16) Since his death in 2017, his memory has been cherished by the local community and, as the unveiling of this memorial clearly demonstrates, by his former diocese and the entire Hungarian Catholic community.
